Site is published! Not surprisingly it was a little bit more of a headache than anticipated but it got there in the end.
Unlocking the domain for transfer was probably the most nail-biting. I did a test run last week and everything happened within just a couple of minutes. Of course it takes multiple times longer the day before the domain expires…just to make it extra interesting!
Once the domain was unlocked I transferred it and then implemented a custom domain using Netlify. Netlify is amazing. It was so easy to set up, and they manage the DNS as well, and provide a free SSL certificate. But the biggest win was being able to set up a redirects file which absolutely saved the day, since I had been using a URL shortener WordPress plugin before. Setting up the redirects in one files saves loads of time from creating dummy landing pages for each link.
And now I’m 100% switched over and off of Wordpress. Feels pretty awesome!
Now that it’s published, of course there are so many things I want to re-do straight away. So will work on some of those tomorrow! But after this weekend I’m going to put it down for a bit to work on other things in the queue.
